Honoring Purple Heart recipients at City Hall
Las Vegas is a Purple Heart City, but August 6, 2026 marked its first National Purple Heart Day ceremony at City Hall. The City of Las Vegas and Stanley J. Spierer Chapter 711 brought the community together to honor those wounded in service and the families who stand beside them. Commander Vincent Palmieri Jr. served as master of ceremonies.
The ceremony brought together Purple Heart recipients, Gold Star families, veterans, active-duty service members, cadets, first responders, and civic leaders. Its program included:
- Colors presented by Cheyenne Army JROTC and the National Anthem sung by Monique Maffei Hester.
- Mayor Shelley Berkley's welcome and a City of Las Vegas proclamation.
- A tribute to chapter namesake Stanley J. Spierer, a Navy Cross and five-time Purple Heart recipient.
- The Missing Man Table, a moment of silence, and Echo Taps.
A historic first for Las Vegas, its Purple Heart recipients, and their families.
